Chidimma Adetshina Secures Historic Win as Miss Universe 2024 First Runner-Up

Chidimma Adetshina, the representative of Nigeria, made history by emerging as first runner-up in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, marking an exciting end to the fiercely competitive Miss Universe 2024 competition.

The winner of the contest is Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who represented Denmark. Nicaraguan Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios hands over her crown to Theilvig. The pageantry’s grand finale was held in Mexico City, Mexico, at the Arena CDMX.

There was intense competition among the 126 contenders representing nations throughout the world, including 18 from African countries including Nigeria, Angola, and Egypt, in this year’s 73rd Miss Universe pageant.

Chidimma Adetshina  journey to the title of Miss Universe was not without challenges and very inspiring. She had previously competed in the Miss South Africa pageant, but she withdrew after receiving criticism for her nationality from the South African Department of Home Affairs over her mother’s records.

In a post she made on instagram before stepping on stage, she said “Many wonder why I didn’t stop. Many asked, “Why not let it be for now? Your life might be at risk.” Some questioned, “Why isn’t she giving up? Does she crave the clout?” I sat back, overwhelmed with so many unanswered questions as life moved faster than I could process. But do you know what? My dreams have kept me afloat.”
