Night of Dreams: Vlisco Women Month 2014

To celebrate the women’s month, Vlisco had series of events. One of which was the Festive Award Night held on Mothering Sunday, 30th March, 2014 at the Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel. It was tagged the Night of Dreams Vlisco Women’s Month Award.
The event started with a cocktail as the ladies strutted the runway in their beautiful attires mostly made of the Vlisco fabric. The host for the night was Mariam Anazodo, a presenter with NTA. It was indeed a night to celebrate women. As Waje said, women hardly get the opportunity to go to parties and clubs. Thus nights like this, women need to really have fun.
The terrakulture troupe got everyone in the celebration mood with their performance. The recurrent  phrase was, ‘I am a woman phenomenally; phenomenal woman, that’s me!

Each of the Nigerian nominees for the Vlisco Woman of the Year Award was given an award. The nominees were, Esther Agbarakwe, Olamide Orekunrin and Adesuwa Onyenokwe. Esther excels in the field of climate change, Dr. Olamide is the flying doctor and Adesuwa excels as a media personality.
One of the side attractions of the night was having the nominees strut the runway in the outfits of different designers who showcased their stuffs that night. Dr. Olamide was styled by House of Jasmine, Adesuwa by Fifi O and Esther by TFK designs. Well I must commend Adesuwa for her graceful catwalk on the runway. At 50 with 6 children, she sure has swag.

Jodie’s performance was good that the crowd wanted her to sing her most popular track, kuchikuchi. She did oblige the crowd whilst the women whose outfits were made with the Vlisco fabric strutted the runway. The next amazing performance for the night was by Waje. Yeah, I say amazing because she did get all the ladies dancing. She even took off her shoes to perform. It was indeed the best performance that night.

Other highlights of the event include the presentation to the 3 finalist for the vlisco women fund given to tailors and designers to assist them. The Nigerian finalist were Sophie Alozie, Chioma Igbokwe and Morokunbi Idowu. Then the award for the best female guests to strut the runway in Vlisco fabrics.

Just in case you didn’t know, the Vlisco Woman of the Year 2013 was Eugenia Abu. She was nominated alongside Joke Silva, Chimamanda and Abike Dabiri. Eugenia in her speech did reiterate that women can be brilliant and yet fashionable.

The peak of the night was announcing the winner of the Vlisco Woman of the Year 2014. The award went to Adesuwa Onyenokwe.

Vlisco did well to give their guest a good treat especially the women who all got a stick of a rose flower and their makeup touched up by BMpro. I had my brows done by them. Baileys was there and lots of small chops for the cocktail.
We do look forward to the next year but for now, let’s watch out for Adesuwa’s activities as she reigns as Vlisco’s Woman of the Year 2014.

Thanks to Jude Nwagwu for sending me the information I used in compiling this report for my blog fam. I couldn’t let you guys miss out of the fun I had yesterday.
