Oliseh and Enyeama- The drama in the Super Eagles camp

Since Tuesday, the Nigerian Super Eagles’ camp has witnessed a lot of drama with the unexpected exit of the beloved goal keeper, Vincent Enyeama.

According to reports in the news, the former captain and goal keeper of the Super Eagles, Vincent Enyeama, resigned from the team, after a misunderstanding that he had with the new coach of the team, Sunday Oliseh, in Belgium.

Oliseh’s story as seen in the Punch Newspaper is that the captain felt sidelined because he was not allowed to express his observations. Thu, he threw a tantrum and was asked to excuse himself from dinner. In anger, he flared up ddespite his colleagues trying to calm him down and stormed out of dinner. Afterwards, Oliseh invited a substitute  young goalkeeper Dele Alampasu as back up for the two goalkeepers in case of any injuries. It was at this point that the goal keeper chose to leave the camp and tendered his resignation. all of this is coming after the coach decided to strip Vincent of his title for a younger player, Ahmed Musa and you can see all of his reasons in the Vanguard.

Oliseh’s side of the story is not all we have as Vincent Enyeama, through his Instagram page, has told his story. He expressed dissatisfaction at the treatment he was served in Belgium. In his words, “the thought of being stripped naked and security agents throwing me out breaks me completely. I will take anything but not insults to my late mother”. In another post, he referred to the whole saga as “the most trying period of my life”. He also mentioned that he had just finished burying his mother when he was stripped of his captainship by the coach and yet humiliated in front of anyone. He went on to add, “My decision to quit the national team is for the best interest of the nation. I don’t want to be the reason that the Nigerian football house is divided……. It is a professional decision made for the blessing of the nation”.

Vincent Enyeama has been the captain for a while now and it makes us wonder what could have gone wrong? Why did Oliseh decide that he couldn’t trust Enyeama to lead his team seeing that he sites the example of President Buhari changing the ministers. Could this be a political move? Or did Enyeama actually act out of character? Is Musa the next person for the job or the best person to lead the team? All these are questions that can be answered if only we were at the camp with team. But then, what say you?
