The 10-10-10 Instagram Hashtag Code

As I prepare for our WhatsApp class on How To Manage Social Media Accounts, I have been sharing some tips on Instagram. One of which was the 10-10-10 Hashtag code. If you haven’t registered for the class yet, you can do so here.

We all know hashtags are key when increasing your visibility on Instagram. Now more than ever, we need to do all we can to beat the new Instagram algorithm. If you are not aware of this, the Instagram algorithm could really hide the contents that you create. There are a number of things that you need to constantly do which you can learn in the class but, let’s focus on this 10-10-10 hashtag code.

The 10-10-10 Hashtag code is distributing the 30hashtag limit that Instagram has given to you across 3sets. That is, you can distribute it along the lines of what describes your post, the services you render and the needs of your target audience. I particularly love the way that Roberts Yakubu distributes it. He uses the formula of 10 small hashtags, 10 active hashtags  and 10 moderately competitive hashtags. All of which is focused on your niche and your community.

I will give you an example using my role as a lifestyle blogger currently travelling but instead of 10, I will drop 3 for each.

Small hashtags: nigerianabroad, thecoloredgirl, takeyourbrandglobal etc
Active hashtags: travel, lifestyleblogger, France etc
Moderately competitive: mediagirl, blackandabroad, brunchlife etc

As you can see, the hashtags are relevant to me as a lifestyle blogger. This is key to avoid being flagged down and to also attract the right audience. You do not want to use the food hashtag but you are strictly a fashion brand. That will show up only to those interested in food and they will not exactly convert the followers to customers which is the ultimate goal for a business on Instagram.

We will be discussing this extensively in our WhatsApp class. If this was of interest to you, just signup and get ready to leave with a wealth of knowledge that will be of great value to you, your business and even help build your career as a virtual employee.

Mention your industry in the comment section and I will share 6 relevant hashtags for you to apply on your Instagram post for visibility.
