Why I Changed My Blog Name To SoTectonic

That which you thought will break you may just be driving you to a change that you never knew you needed.

When I started the blog in 2012, I had very little idea of what a blog should look like. If you read the post on why I started the blog, you will remember that a friend registered the blog for me and showed me how to start publishing. Using BlogSpot was easy and straight forward as every new post was simply on top of the previous one.

Why I Changed My Blog Name

After 2 years of running the blog and building a community, it was time to make some changes. I was beginning to crave something that was aesthetically pleasing. I wanted to have a magazine feel, something that seemed impossible to achieve with BlogSpot at the time. Besides, it seemed more professional as a .com than a .blogspot.com. Hence the need to migrate to a paid domain name.

In making this move, we did encounter what seemed like a major challenge. I say this because I was quite sad when the website designer informed me that someone had bought sociotectonic.com. We were able to track the person, but they were now demanding a huge sum of money which I was not ready to let go of.

How We Ended Up With The Name, SoTectonic

I decided to tweak the blog name, taking out 3 letters. Now that I think of it, I am very grateful to the one who bought sociotectonic because, I prefer the new name. When this happened, I did not exactly feel this way but looking back now, I am glad that it did. This is why the excerpt says,

'That which you thought will break you may just be driving you to a change that you never knew you needed. Share on X

We officially made the move in March 2015, lost a whole lot of content in 2017 but here we are, still blogging. Infact, I now have an ebook highlighting this challenge amongst other things that you can learn from (Click to get your copy). I also have a mailing list where I share blogging and content creating tips (Click to join the list).

Have you ever had a challenge that turned out in your favour? Share with me in the comment section.
