In this edition, Vienne shares some travel tips she gathered from visiting Maldives. If you missed the first edition of this series, check the related items.
Planning
“The first thing to do is to do a research of the place. Google is truly your friend at times like this. When booking your flight, I think the key is getting a flight connection with the shortest lay over as possible if you hate transit as much as I do. Ethiad Airways was perfect for the connection from LOS/ABU DHABI/MALE CITY. We also made sure to do the booking weeks before the scheduled trip”.
Environment
“The weather was great all through, warm afternoons and the most beautiful sunsets. The best time to visit is during the summer. Sometime between May and November is also not a bad idea as it is most likely not to rain.”
People and Culture
“The people are so warm to visitors. We went during ramandan so, it was necessary for us to wear very modest outfits when going into town. We were also not allowed to eat in public during the day since the people were fasting but, we were able to get fresh coconut water in town one day but that was after we confirmed from our tour guide that it was okay.”
Food
“The food on the island is soooooo friggin good! Lots of Sea food too. The signature cocktails are unbelievable. I gained major inches on this holiday as everything was so delicious. They had so many fantastic restaurants from Japanese to Chinese, Italian, Indian and Arabic.”
Attractions
“We had activities like snorkeling, round the island boat rides, yoga and spa sessions, wine tasting events, painting classes and cocktail master classes. There was always something cool to do at night on the island- movie nights outdoors with popcorn, live bands, Acoustic sessions and Traditional dancers. We had to pay about 20-30 USD for the side attractions though”.
Vienne and Yemi sure had a great time as Vienne said, “Maldives is a must for travel. The staff at Maldives resort, Kurumba, think of every little detail to make you comfortable. My birthday was beautiful once I woke up as everyone on the island took time to make the day special. We were even welcomed with wine as honeymooners. It was really so thoughtful. I wiIl visit the Maldives again in a heartbeat and I am so thankful my husband thought of this.”
