3years ago, I got my very first Samsung smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A5 which was also the very first device that I reviewed on the site and the beginning of my relationship with Samsung. 3years after, I present to you, the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 edition.
My first interaction with the device was at the Private viewing of Samsung Unpacked. What caught my attention was how bright the images appeared on the screen after every click. After that, I knew that I had to explore the device a little more. Not just to state the features but to discover what makes the device different from what I had 3 years ago. This is what I discovered…..
Design
Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 edition is 5.2 inches which is 0.2 inches more than the one that I had in 2014. The body of the device is also sleeker and classier. The edges are curved in a way that it looks round instead of square-ish which was what the 2014 edition looked like. Though light, it weighs 186gram which is 63 grams more than the 2014 edition. The extra weight doesn’t even feel like anything and adds absolutely no weight to my purse, my pocket or even when I hold it. The speaker is also by the side of the device and not at the back.
Camera
If you follow us on Instagram, you would have seen many amazing images captured with the device. If you haven’t noticed, most of the images taken from the Czech Days in Ghana were captured using the device. There is a drastic improvement from the 2014 edition. The brightness of the images captured is very impressive with f/1.9 aperture. If you are looking for a device that isn’t as expensive as the Samsung Galaxy S7 series yet takes great images, you really should invest in this device with 1080×1920 px. The primary and the secondary camera both feature 16mp, a lot more than the 2014 edition ever had. You also get some additional filters which you can apply before taking an image. You still get the hand gesture feature when taking a selfie, the very reason I loved my 2014 edition. You can also flip the screen of the device when you launch the camera to take it to selfie or back camera, in addition to the icon for that.
Performance
As mentioned earlier, the battery size of the 2017 edition is more than the 2014 edition. Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 edition is 3000mAh which gives enough talking hours even with the applications that are installed in it. Though I haven’t put in a SIM card but I have a lot of apps installed that are relevant for my work and I get to access the internet via WIFI, the battery does last a whole day without the need to charge. And I am talking apps like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, video editing apps, picture editing apps and more. It is equally dust and water resistant which is an added value for anyone that has been drooling over the S7 but cannot afford to get it yet. You are assured of at least 30minutes immersed in water. The internal memory is 32GB which is 2 times the 2014 edition while the RAM is 3GB.
User Interface
I did notice that with the launch of every app, it is more attractive on the 2017 edition and very friendly too. The apps launch real fast and the connectivity has improved a great deal. There are more features that have been attached to make the device a lot better to use. For instance, in connecting to wifi, you have the feature to connect automatically or not, more pronounced.
Final words
I do recommend the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 for the youths who are looking for a device with good speed, great battery life and an amazing camera quality. Your social media pages will be better than ever before. On that note, I will say that Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is a lifestyle device!
