As ladies, we can never have too many makeup products. However, there are times when you have to be strategic about what you put in your makeup purse and the makeup products for summer are definitely different from the winter or the fall.
While doing my makeup today, I asked myself, “If I was only allowed to travel with five beauty products during summer, what will they be?” As simple as this question seems, it took me forever to come up with a list. My first list had ten products and then I had to ask myself “What are the most important things I cannot do without?”
Below are my top 5 products and possible recommendations:
Primers
As a MUA, I am all about creating a beautiful and a flawless skin. My clients can testify to this and for that to happen, I need a primer. I can never apply makeup without using a primer. Primers are known to add longevity to the makeup as they seal the pores to create a flawless and smooth finish. Now that summer is here, your pores are likely to produce more oil which makes it the best time to ensure that you have a primer on. Without a primer, my face looks like I used vegetable oil over it instead of a foundation and YES, primers are my saving grace.
I was ecstatic to find a picture that had all my favourite primers. Now you know which ones you can trust!
Primers are the truth. It is important to bear in mind these are just recommendations and the effect on your skin may differ. You have to consider the weather, skin type, and the feel on your skin (is it greasy or non-greasy?)
Tinted Moisturizer or a moisturizing foundation
After primers, my next love is for liquid foundations/ tinted moisturizers (Yes, powdery foundations are things of the past). Since 2010, the trend alert is the “dewy skin finish”. The dewy skin finish is created with the use of a liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer. It gives the skin an air of freshness and also creates a subtle glow. When looking for a good foundation, I make sure it has an SPF of at least 30 and it is moisturizing. Do note that a foundation with an SPF15 and a primer with SPF 15 won’t give you SPF 30 – we are not doing any math here lol! This in the long run will reduce the need for you to buy a moisturizer because your foundation has the same contents or ingredients as an actual moisturizer, reducing the list of things to carry in your makeup bag. My favorite brands of foundation and tinted moisturizers are Marykay and Makeup Forever.
Mascara
My next go to product is my mascara. I chose this product over an eye liner because even if I line my eyes I still need to apply mascara so my lashes can pop lol! Sadly, I do not believe in spending so much on mascaras except when they are lash lengthening or those that aid the growth of the lash. If you like your lashes to have a specific look then you would need to pay attention to the brush structure and type before buying a mascara. This would not apply to someone like me who wears a lot of false lashes.
Blush
I cannot do a makeup look without using blush. I am a blush addict and I believe everyone needs a little bit of color added to their face to bring in some depth. During the summer months, it is best to use colors that are bright and not toasted like the blushes for fall or harmattan season. Summer colors tend to come in plum, and coral /peachy colors.
Lip gloss
I am forever a lip gloss girl and I always have one on my person because you never know when you will need it. I just like to make sure my lip gloss also moisturizes my lips, so I make sure I take that into consideration when picking out my lip gloss.
